====== Parker, John L., Jr. ====== {{runners:john_l_parker_jr.jpg|}} John L. Parker Jr. is the author of the highly acclaimed novel [[books:Once a Runner]] and [[books:Again to Carthage]]. He has written for [[magazines:Outside]], [[magazines:Runner's World]], [[magazines:Running Times]], and numerous other publications. He was the Southeastern Conference mile champion three times, and the United States Track and Field Federation national champion in the steeplechase and runner-up in the three-mile, and was a teammate of Olympians [[runners:shorter frank|Frank Shorter]], [[runners:bacheler jack|Jack Bacheler]], and [[runners:galloway jeff|Jeff Galloway]] on several national championship cross-country teams. A graduate of the University of Florida's College of Journalism as well as its College of Law, Parker has been a practicing attorney, Adjunct Professor of Legal Writing at Florida State College of Law, a newspaper reporter and columnist, a speechwriter for then Governor Bob Graham, an editorial director at [[magazine:Running Times]] magazine, and an editor and publisher.
