Where to run in Trieste (Italy)

By Guido Cosulich de Pecine - From Trieste run up to the little village on the Carst Plateau, Basovizza (about 6 km from the center of Trieste, about 250/300 meters of altitude). This course runs along a secondary street to another village, Opicina (about 330 meters of altitude): the lenght is 8k from Basovizza to Opicina (and the same back), so the total is 16k. The first 200 meters are slightly downhill, then at about 800 meters you have a brief climb and another brief descent: then you run almost regularly for about 2k, passing through the village of Padriciano (fountain). Here you have about a slight climb for 400 meters followed by a slight descent for about 300 meters. At about 4k you pass through the village of Trebiciano (two fountains) where the street has a descent and at the fifth kilometer you run uphill to about the seventh kilometer. The last kilometer is a long descent to Opicina (fountain). You will not find a lot of traffic along this street, so it is good for training. It is possible to run longer from Opicina to other villages of the Carst Plateau up to 42k (out and back).
