Frankfurt

This 8k run is absolutely flat, and the distance can easily be varied. Start at Eiserner Steg and head down-river along the gravel trail until you reach the Holbeinsteg footbridge. Cross over to the South bank, where the Städel Museum awaits you - it houses the famous Max Beckmann painting and features a café frequented by the arts-and-ads crowd. Continue running now up-stream along the Schaumainkai, Frankfurt's famous museum mile, sporting highlights such as the film museum or the white-on-white square Museum of Applied Arts, designed by Richard Meier. Run back past the Eiserner Steg (approximately 3 kilometers) and continue East. Dodging in-liners, cyclists, other runners, and dogs, run along the gravel path, under Alte Brücke, Obermainbrücke and then Flösserbrücke. You can cross back and head for home, however the real goal is the mill at Gerbermühle, further upstream toward the town of Offenbach. To continue, run past the Deutschherren district, run under the rail bridge, with the East Harbor and new residences across the water from you, as far as the rowing clubs. A few yards on and you get to the Gerbermühle with its beautiful tree-shaded beer garden. Now you face a tough choice: stop and enjoy a cool cider, or head back to Eiserner Steg, with the city skyline growing ever larger as you close down the last few kilometers.
